Japanese cuisine gets another nod in our list of top UK restaurants as Yo! Sushi, known for its vegan takes on Japanese dishes, lands on the sixth spot. The brand, which has operated for 24 years now has outlets not just in the UK but also in Russia, Australia and parts of the Middle East. Today, it has 26 vegan dishes on its menu and takes great pride in being a member of the Sustainable Restaurant Association.
This is not the first time its vegan-friendly status has gotten the attention of organisations that have embraced a plant-based way of life. The brand’s Tofu Katsu Curry won the Best Vegan Curry award in PETA’s 2015 Vegan Food Awards — a fact not lost on our members.
“Yo! Sushi tofu katsu curry is the best katsu I’ve had. I started eating this in 2016 and as of today it’s still my favourite,” says @Julesbateman.
In fact, while it remains largely a sushi restaurant, it’s well-loved for its takes on Japanese street food. The inari taco also has its fair share of fans. Here, tofu pockets are stuffed with rice and avocado before being topped with ponzu salsa and vegan sriracha mayo. “By far my favourite! The outer layer is really sweet, followed by sticky rice with fresh onion & cress with a vegan siracha mayo on top,” says @rhiannondiamxnd.
