Unity Diner bills itself as London’s biggest 100 percent vegan diner and cocktail bar — which would be big shoes to fill. Thankfully, it does so in more ways than one. For starters, it is run as a non-profit, and its proceeds have led to the founding of Surge Sanctuary — an 18-acre site that houses abused and unwanted animals.

Its food too is as stellar as its mission. There are thoughtful dishes on the menu, such as the “salmon” sashimi which comes rolled in crispy nori and garnished with microgreens grown in the sanctuary. Yet, it’s the UD Tofish & Chips that’s an attraction on its own. After all, it’s hard to be in London and not want to grab a (veganised) version of the iconic British dish.

The nori sheet inside gave it the perfect fishy flavour and the beer batter was absolutely delicious. I can certainly see why this is an award winning dish!”
